This photo and the previous post are the results of an assignment. Some friends of mine (including Chiaroscuro, Visual Field, and Luminous Lens) and I have started an informal photography group. Last week our assignment was to shoot at the Mattin Center at Johns Hopkins University campus (this and the previous entry), and an onion. I have a few more shots of the Mattin center, but I am too embarrassed to post my sorry onion shots because, look how awesome this one is: Under the Knife. Well, I did learn something from the assignment - I need to work on my studio skills! ![]() I have considered cropping this image in various ways, in particular cropping off the top and/or bottom so that the diagnol lines line up with the corners. But eventually I decided against cropping, that I liked the width of the building jutting out to the upper right. What do you think? Posted by: Jeanette Hägglund at October 6, 2005 2:11 AM I like it -- all the shades of blue. My only critique would be the same as owen -- I might try to crop out the reflection of the trees. Then again, orange liked it. Guess it all depends on what works for different people! Posted by: Saroy at January 26, 2005 11:45 PM I'm glad you didn't crop as the angle really gives it impact. I love all the shades of blue ... nice :) Posted by: daisies at January 26, 2005 10:30 PM Cropping off may have made what gives a little narrow impression. Posted by: jiro at January 26, 2005 9:45 AM I agree with Benny - I love the abstract nature of the shot and I think the reflection of the trees is a little distracting. What if you just crop a little off the left of the image? Posted by: owen at January 26, 2005 7:58 AM Good choice on not cropping this. It makes for a more interesting composition. I love the simplicity of this one. However the thing that make this shot for me is the reflection ( very faint) of the trees. Nice touch leaving those in. Posted by: orange at January 26, 2005 7:43 AM good call on the cropping. i feel like the impact of the strong diagonal lines would not be as good if it had been cropped. One thing you might consider is cloning the tree reflections out of the window. It adds character to the photo but i feel like there isnt enough of it to keep it in. =) Posted by: Benny at January 26, 2005 2:37 AM Post a comment |
