![]() I have a conference presentation coming up which I've been stressing about. Interestingly, the more I need to work on that, the more fascinating forks and other objects in my kitchen and elsewhere in my home become. Coincidence? Well, I have almost, almost gotten forks out of my system for now. This is the last one I have at the moment anyway. Update (2-15-2005), as suggested by Mark and Derek independently, I've tried a crop to make the image more abstract, without the ends of the tines showing (I actually cropped a bit more than they suggested). Thanks for the suggestion: I think I prefer the more abstract version (ha is that really a surprise?). Then I got carried away and starting trying weird effects, what do you think? just cropped: ![]() filter: glowing edges: ![]() various channel mixer and color selection layers: ![]() Posted by Gaja at February 13, 2005 11:25 PM © All images are copyrighted. Commentshey do you mind if i use this picture in my art coursework? i will say that it is your work, but ive been looking for inspiration for ages now, and i think this is it. please get back to me a.s.a.p. Posted by: Ellie at February 14, 2007 10:22 AM I like best the original one; it has already a lot in it and the crop lind of looks a little too tight (the fork "wants to breathe! ;-) Interesting the neon-like one, though... Posted by: Massimo at February 19, 2005 1:13 PM ~the str8, unmanipulated image works best IMHO~ Posted by: btezra at February 18, 2005 3:16 PM i was going to ask if you did with photoshop..but. i think yes...so, great job Posted by: Gabriel at February 18, 2005 9:54 AM yeah, the cropping turned out nice, much more powerful i think.. glowing edges is cool-looks neon-very 80s. (obvious PS filter though-rule#1 w/PS filters-use carefully. fun for this.) b&w looks good on the fork. hmmm-not sure what happened to the surface its resting on. kind of lose the line effect a bit. i agree with luminouslens about true photography, but you have to experiment as well. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Posted by: zerosun at February 16, 2005 11:27 AM I like the cropped version, it strengthens the shot. I quite like the b&w one too, although the aliasing on the fork edges is a bit too strong. Posted by: Andreas at February 16, 2005 7:38 AM While you're at it, it might be intesting if you cropped the right side of the photo, before the fork head begins to slope down towards the handle. Perhaps that would be too abstract though, and not fork-like enough? As for the different effects you tried, I sort of like the glowing edges filter, but I sort of don't, because it seems to be abstracting away from "real photography" (whatever I mean by that!). Or maybe it's not that it takes anyway from "photography", but from the "realism" of the shot. I like the black and white version of this, though there seem to be some white flecks that are showing up that don't appear to be in the color version. Do you know what's happening there? I guess it must just be noise. Anyway, I didn't really respond to the crop that you made, other than to suggest another crop, but I should say that I really do like this crop. I think it looks more abstract and less like a fork just placed on a table. :) Posted by: luminouslens at February 15, 2005 8:29 PM While you're at it, it might be intesting if you cropped the right side of the photo, before the fork head begins to slope down towards the handle. Posted by: paul at February 15, 2005 5:25 PM oh wow ... the reflections in this one are superb! looks like a photo from a Pottery Barn catalog Posted by: Crash at February 15, 2005 1:11 PM Nicely done - the reflections are superb. Posted by: deceptive at February 15, 2005 6:11 AM this is really nice. love how the straight lines "warp" as they hit the fork. what would make this shot even more interesting, crop the left side in a little, so you don't see the fork ends. then you just see the black lines and fork shape over the colored lines, as it makes it more a mystery. just a thought. beautiful as always. Posted by: zerosun at February 14, 2005 11:40 PM So cool. :) Posted by: Chiaroscuro at February 14, 2005 9:22 PM great captures. Although it thinks that it understands, since there are many colors of a back line pattern, I consider that it is better to lessen. Posted by: hiroshi at February 14, 2005 6:30 PM haha, nice procrastination! I love this shot, it's so creative, works beautifully. Posted by: miles at February 14, 2005 2:04 PM Great macro shot! Love the reflection, very clever way to position this shot. Awesome! Posted by: jyoseph at February 14, 2005 1:33 PM Great reflection! It's fantastic. Posted by: Saikoro at February 14, 2005 9:56 AM Fantastic shot. Love the reflections. I like the light lower left side contrasted by the dark top right corner. What would happen if you cropped the left a little to allow the fork to go of the edge? Posted by: orange at February 14, 2005 8:07 AM Great use of colors and reflection. Well done! Posted by: Andreas at February 14, 2005 7:40 AM Well, better forks then knives..... I think. Posted by: Chantal at February 14, 2005 4:27 AM Post a comment |
