Mysterious Blue

I don't think I will reveal what this is, for several reasons: 1) I enjoy all the guesses ;-), 2) I want it to be mysterious, 3) I want you to see it as just abstract pattern, color, and texture, and 4) it won't be nearly as interesting after you know what it is. Well, I guess someone could convince me eventually...

I didn't know tree bark looked like that when you inverted it. I was guessing that's what it was so i reinverted it with photoshop and guess what? A beautiful tree.
--- note to the rest of you: leave it this way, it looks cooler

My guess is tree bark, but I like the fact that you, the photographer, have created something. I like it very much.

no idea what it is but it's sweet!

Wonderful abstract, great detail and colour. I'm guessing it's some kind of stone but it really does not matter what it is, it's just a great shot.

i was thinking an extreme closeup of a piece of very crumpled blue foil paper (like a candy wrapper), but that doesn't explain the writing in the corners - the scale wouldn't be right. So I'm stumped. It's a lovely abstract though.

I'm guessing an ice sculpture. It looks like somebody signed it on the left. Aweseome texture and nice deep blue.

oops. i got so excited about guessing that i forgot to tell you that i really like the shot! it's amazing how cold and shattered it looks.

inverted bark?

Posted by: zac at February 25, 2005 10:22 AM

I'd say its water. Great texture great color. It really would look fantastic printed huge.

It's an ice cube?

Anyway, that's what I was thinking of shooting and this is how I imagined it would look (if I had a macro that could get this close). :)

~it is a severe macro of the blue ink on a check you wrote to me for $1 million dollars, right?~

brrrr, that makes me chill on my seat
great pictures

woah, stunning photo. i dont think its ice because of the writing despite the "cool blue". i think it's water at a really fast shutter speed running over glass, since it seems somewhat transluscent. beautiful and mysterious (as the title suggests).

This is awesome. It would make a fantastic abstract painting. Is it ice?

Love the coolness of this shot. It's beautiful.
I can't decide whether the ice plane (assuming it is ice) is vertical, like on a tree, or horizontal, like on a lake...
Well done, anyway!

I'm with Simon, It looks like stone. In either case, excellent shot! Love the textures and movement.

This is really striking. The self-similar fractal nature of it is cool. Whatever it is, it's been around long enough to be written on.

Posted by: Marty at February 24, 2005 7:36 AM

I think it is melting ice on a wall or something of that kind. I agree with Simon, it sends out cold...... a nice abstract picture.

Posted by: Chantal at February 24, 2005 3:16 AM

That looks really cool and the blue is amazing. I'm guessing that this was a stone wall of some kind?
