Several people have asked me how I did the conversion for this photo and others have asked what the original looked like, so here it is. This is straight from the camera. The way I did the conversion is:
1) a curves layer that darkened but also increased contrast (pulled down in general with a slight upward curve at the top), with blending mode overlay at 76%
2) a color fill layer with an orangy color, with blending mode color burn at 53%
3) channel mixer in monochrome using mostly the blue, then green channels, no red (because I wanted the yellow flowers to be relatively dark)
4) slight unsharp mask, I don't remember the numbers exactly

Now that I look at them side by side; it's pretty incredible how much detail I was able to recover in the flowers. It was there but hidden!

I like this photo very much as it is. But with the comparison, it's awesome!!

I'm not a fan of sepia, although I use it sometimes...but in this case has turned a pretty picture into something extraordinary.

I am not a great fan of PS, but on this occasion I will make an exception. Nice image and very good framing.

love the toned version, the detail and texture of the flowers is brought out more. this does have a very surreal and fantasy feel. great shot.

I like the converted version...rare and exotic.

Lovely treatment in the first photo. I dig the tones.

I like the way the small flowers lead you to the textural tree. I quite like the toning, but I wonder if it would work with the natural colours?

That's a great shot...I really like the flowers and the tree is amazing! Thanks for sharing with us :)

Wonderful shot. Love the warm sepia tone. Almost feels like Dottie will come skipping around the corner in a moment...

Lovely picture. Did you use in-camera sepia toning or do a conversion. Either way, it works very well for me. I believe I'm in a monotone mood until spring springs.

very unreal and at the same time very beautiful. to me those flowers seem to be made out of wood or something... coloring is great, too!

A strange knot in this tree....nature can give nice things to photograpg hè.

I like the coloring. Kind of a non traditional sepia color that gives it a unique feel. Nice job.

Beautiful shot - the colorization is perfect.

Just amazing. Fantastic textures. Great composition. I think the monochromatic treatment really does give this that fantasy look.
