Travelogue VI (Albuquerque Environs)

« Travelogue V (Rural Landscapes) | Main | Travelogue VII (Santa Fe) »

Following a conference in Albuquerque in early January, I went with a few friends from the department on an excursion to Santa Fe and stopped along the way at Coronado State Monument. Here we got to see a reconstructed kiva, a ceremonial chamber, the top of which is shown in the first photo (photos were not allowed inside the kiva). There were some awesome murals inside the kiva as well.

This is actually part of the museum building, nothing historic, but the architecture really appealed to me and definitely contrasted with the architecture I'm used to seeing in Baltimore.

We had no idea when we decided to stop at the monument that it included a beautiful trail overlooking (what I just found out online was) the Rio Grande River. It was a really beautiful, peaceful spot and the colors were amazing. The river was deep blue while the foliage and soil were in golden reddish tones.

Next time - Sante Fe.

I love the last shot the most. The water looks so intimidating but still very beautiful

Great architecture and shadow-capturing. I love southwestern architecture because it is so stark, yet so earthy.

I really like the second shot, and the radient heat and feel for the atmosphere that it exudes. Great series. After Santa Fe, you should head up to Durango and see Mesa Verdé.
